YOUR VOTE
How do you feel about the new ECO town which your local MP is currently in support
of. It now seams that Gascoigne Wood mine site is being put forward for the new town.
This is up to 20,000 homes built on the old site. Selby is only 6,500, so the impact
will be significant. If you feel strongly against this proposal then vote at the
Downing Street website e-

Place your NEWS or EVENT on this site.
The site is also hoping to gather old Photographs, Stories/Tales of the village and surrounding areas so as to develop a then and now page. If you or an older member of your family can help, then please get in touch.
Do you have any information re the history of buildings roads etc. These can be added to the site to enhance the interest and connection with the community.

ECO TOWN MEETING
The meeting explained how the government had put out to agencies to come up with sites for the ECO towns with out consulting local councils. Some residents attending where of the opinion that if these ECO towns were built then this would ease the development on local communities. This is not the case. Councils would still have to hit there targets on numbers being built, explained Marc Crane.
Thankfully the Leeds Regional Councils rejected Gascoigne Wood site. This means no one is for the site but the government could still bulldose this through. We have to wait and see

Are the ECO towns really ECO friendly, Local infrastructure and jobs must be taken into account.
Should we be building away from amenities, thus forcing residents to travel for shopping. Travelling to shop; with limited or no buses, encouraging more car travel.
Are there that many jobs in this area. If we don’t have the jobs then is it eco friendly to have all these residents travelling to work in York, Leeds or Hull.

SPONSOR A WEEK
Please don’t forget, your village church yard doesn’t take care of itself. A weeks care costs £20. You can donate that amount and add your name to the sponsors of this worthwhile task.
TOP TEN PLACE FOR WISTOW
Selby Council are only completing ten Village Design statements this year, Wistow being one of them. A committee is already in place in the village and are ready to take up this challenging project.
To keep you the community informed, a page will be added to this web site and updated regularly. All those offering help then watch this space.
